On March 30, 2026, the UVT – ExplainableAI Reading Group meeting took place.
The theme of this edition was learning the cause-effect relationship from purely observational data and applications in the explainability of artificial intelligence models. In this presentation, after a brief review of the field, the presentation discussed recent advances in this field, focusing on the fundamental problem of distinguishing cause from effect. The presentation was followed by questions and technical discussions.
The guest was Prof. Dr. Mario Figueiredo, IST Distinguished Professor, Feedzai Chair on Machine Learning at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon. In addition to the UVT team, the following participated: Assoc. Prof. Cosmin Bonchis, Prof. Daniela Zaharie, Prof. Viorel Negru, Prof. Mircea Marin, Prof. Dr. Darian Onchis, external guests namely Prof. Radu Victor Balan, University of Maryland, Prof. Florin Leon, TU Iași and Assoc. Prof. Dan Pescaru, UPT Timișoara, along with PhD and Master students of UVT.
