On June 25, 2025, the Romanian Hub for Artificial Intelligence – HRIA was officially launched. HRIA is a strategic project that positions Romania on the European map of excellence in Artificial Intelligence.
HRIA will build a national ecosystem that connects research, innovation and the economic environment, with the objective of developing advanced technologies and concrete applications based on Artificial Intelligence.
The project is coordinated by the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, in partnership with six universities in the country (Technical University of Cluj-Napoca, West University of Timișoara, “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University of Iași, Politehnica University of Timișoara, University of Bucharest, Babeș-Bolyai University) and eight innovative SMEs.
The launch event was attended by representatives of the coordinating university, national institutions (Ministry of Education and Research, Education Commission, Ministry of Investments and European Projects, National Research Authority, Digitization Authority of Romania), the European Commission in Romania, as well as rectors of partner universities.
The second part of the event featured contributions from consortium partners, international collaborators, and industry representatives, followed by a question and answer session and outlining the next steps in the development of the HRIA.
