On September 1–2, 2025, the Romanian Hub for Artificial Intelligence (HRIA) hosted a strategic workshop titled “The Future Is Built Today: AI for Health, Cities, Environment, and Security”, spotlighting one of the most urgent and promising directions in technological development—applying artificial intelligence to domains critical for societal progress.
The event brought together researchers, university professors, and academic experts in a collaborative setting focused on advancing research directions T5–T8 within the HRIA program. Over two days, participants explored current challenges and outlined innovative solutions that could reshape Romania’s future through technology.
The workshop focused on four strategic areas:
- AI in Medicine and Health
Discussions covered advanced technologies for image-based diagnostics (X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds), wearable devices for rehabilitation and mobility, personalized diagnostics through clinical and imaging data aggregation, and brain signal processing models for understanding neural activity. - AI in Cybersecurity and Space
Experts examined solutions for vulnerability detection via OSINT, optical and radar systems for orbital parameter estimation, and satellite data analytics for soil monitoring, urban development, and agriculture. - AI for Smart Cities
Topics included energy management in homes, coordination of autonomous urban systems, and sensor data aggregation for emission tracking and air quality prediction in densely populated areas. - AI for the Environment
Researchers explored predictive models for urban mobility and climate change, drone-based image analysis for agriculture and forestry, and smart sensors for detecting hard-to-measure contaminants in mobile conditions.
The workshop gathered specialists from Romanian universities who actively contributed to shaping development strategies for each thematic area. Through applied presentations and focused debates, the event generated concrete recommendations for integrating AI technologies into critical sectors, with an emphasis on sustainability, inclusion, and operational efficiency.
Once again, the workshop reaffirmed that artificial intelligence, as applied within HRIA, is not a distant promise—it is a present-day tool capable of transforming healthcare, protecting the environment, optimizing urban life, and strengthening digital security.
Through interdisciplinary dialogue and strategic planning, HRIA continues to build a relevant, scalable AI ecosystem deeply connected to today’s societal challenges—and ready to meet tomorrow’s demands.
