Between April 17–20, 2026, the national stage of an extraordinary initiative — the National Olympiad of Artificial Intelligence (ONIA) — took place at Politehnica. HRIA was proud to be among the institutional partners and co organizers of this event.
On March 30, 2026, the UVT – ExplainableAI Reading Group meeting took place. The theme of this edition was learning the cause-effect relationship from purely observational data and applications in the explainability of artificial intelligence models.
The Romanian Hub for Artificial Intelligence (HRIA) participated in the first edition of the National Conference “Artificial Intelligence in Romanian Research”, organized by the Institute of Legal Research “Acad. Andrei Rădulescu” of the Romanian Academy, Dimitrie Cantemir Christian University, and Universul Juridic Publishing House. Held in the Aula Magna of the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest, the event brought together researchers, professors, and experts in law, technology, medicine, cybersecurity, and mass media for an extensive dialogue on the impact of artificial intelligence on society and national research.
The Romanian Hub for Artificial Intelligence (HRIA), together with Politehnica Bucharest, participated in the event “AI for Industry: From Research to Real World Applications” on March 18, 2026, a meeting that brought students, researchers, and industry leaders into the same room to explore how advanced AI research translates into concrete industrial innovation.
On February 25, 2026, the Romanian Artificial Intelligence Hub was presented at the workshop “Artificial Intelligence in Health: Academic Leadership, Innovation and Smart Regulation”. The event was organized in collaboration with ROHEALTH – Cluster for Health and Bioeconomy, in the context of European initiatives dedicated to artificial intelligence applied to health, and aimed to create a framework for dialogue between academia, the innovation ecosystem and relevant institutional actors. The event took place at the West University of Timisoara.
On February 17, the Romanian Artificial Intelligence Hub (HRIA) was honored to participate in the Third Joint Committee on Romania–Japan Cooperation in Science and Technology, held at the Horia Hulubei National Institute for R&D in Physics and Nuclear Engineering (IFIN-HH).
On January 26, 2026, the UVT – ExplainableAI Reading Group meeting took place. The meeting focused on Digital Topological Data Analysis for New Models of Explainability.

We present a short excerpt from the interview with Professor Irina Mocanu: “HRIA is a support mechanism for increasing the visibility of Romanian research in AI and for helping develop real‑world applications, through a collaboration between universities and companies. In this way, research carried out within the university can be transferred into the economy, bringing an added layer of real applicability.

This recognition highlights the growing interest and enthusiasm for Artificial Intelligence in Romania and beyond.
On November 11, – The AI & Privacy Forum, organized by AmCham Romania, hosted a high level panel titled “Unlocking the Value of AI in Business, and in Romania”. The discussion brought together leading voices from academia, government, and the private sector to explore how Artificial Intelligence can strengthen Romania’s competitiveness, innovation capacity, and sustainable growth.
Between October 23-26, HRIA participated in the AI in Art Practices and Research conference organized by the “I.L. Caragiale” National University of Theatre and Cinematography, Bucharest.
On September 25, the Romanian Hub for Artificial Intelligence (HRIA) welcomed a delegation of experts from the World Bank, marking a key moment in strengthening international collaboration and acknowledging the progress made so far within the project.
On September 23-24, HRIA participated in the AI, Data and Robotics Forum – ADFR2025 in Norway.

Between September 22–25, the city of Timișoara hosted the 27th edition of the international symposium SYNASC – Symbolic and Numeric Algorithms for Scientific Computing, an event dedicated to interdisciplinary research in advanced algorithms, artificial intelligence, and formal methods.
On September 15, HRIA participated in the “Innovation and Growth through AI Integration” event organized by Magurele Science Park.
On September 9, the HRIA project was promoted at the “Human-Centric AI Workshop”. The workshop was organized within the Horizon Europe ENFIELD project and was hosted by the National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest.
On August 19, Market Watch published the article (Top Story) Hub-ul Român de Inteligență Artificială – Motor pentru Inovație și Competitivitate la Nivel European.

HRIA was a co-organizer of the National Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence 2025. HRIA members were part of the Scientific Committee of the Olympiad. The Romanian team, selected following the national Olympiad, obtained 1 gold medal, 4 silver medals and 3 bronze medals at the “International Olympiad in AI” Competition, August 2-9, Beijing, China.
On June 30, the HRIA project organized the scientific presentation “Impact of Explainable AI in Sciences, Energy and Medicine: Large Language Models, Graph Neural Networks and Physics-Informed Neural Networks”. The presentation took place at the PRECIS research institute and was delivered by Prof. Saman Halgamuge – University of Melbourne and member of IEEE, IET, AAIA and NASSL, as well as distinguished visitor of the IEEE Computer Society.

In the article, Professor Adina Magda Florea, who received the award for launching the HRIA project during the 2025 edition of the Capital Gala Women of Success 2025, discussed the importance of Artificial Intelligence and the HRIA project.
On June 5, the second edition of the ExplainableAI Reading Group meeting dedicated to the T1 direction of the Romanian Artificial Intelligence Hub took place. The edition was dedicated to recent advances in Vision AI, proved to be both intellectually stimulating and deeply inspiring.
On June 3, the HRIA project was presented at the “First steps in AI 2025” event. The event took place at the Faculty of Informatics of the Alexandru Ioan Cuza University of Iași.
On May 29, UVT promoted the HRIA project at the CCIFER – AI event which took place in Cinema Studio, Timișoara.
On May 28, UVT promoted the HRIA project at the AmCham – CyberSec 2025 event which took place in Iulius Congress Hall, Verdi Hall, Timișoara.
On May 26, the first edition of the ExplainableAI Reading Group meeting dedicated to the T1 direction of the Romanian Artificial Intelligence Hub took place, with the theme: “Explainable Artificial Intelligence Models for Sensitive Data” (Medicine, Law, Cybersecurity).
On May 16-17, the HRIA project was presented at the 90th Anniversary Congress of the Academy of Medical Sciences. The congress was held under the High Patronage of the Chamber of Deputies of the Romanian Parliament.
